Prosper Guéranger

On July 11, 1833, the feast of St. Benedict, Dom Prosper Guéranger and five companions reopened the small monastery at Solesmes.  It was the first monastery to be reopened after the French Revolution.  Abbot Guéranger encouraged the chant research and restoration work of the monks of Solesmes, and he worked tirelessly to restore monastic life to France, to purge the French Mass of its Gallican elements and thereby restore the Roman Liturgy to France. 

We have put the mission of Priory Press under the intercession of Abbot Guéranger because of his is commitment to the beauty of the Roman Mass, his understanding of its profound formative powers, and his tireless dedication to the restoration of chant.  We ask that you pray for our work through his intercession and also that you pray for his cause of beatification and canonization.

Prayer for the Canonization of Prosper Guéranger

• God our Father, your servant dom Prosper Guéranger, abbot of Solesmes, attentive to the Holy Spirit, allowed a multitude of the faithful to rediscover the sense of the liturgy, source of the true Christian spirit. 

  May his devotedness to the holy Church and his filial love towards the Immaculate, Virgin in the Incarnate mystery, be a light for the Christians of our time. 

  Deign, O Lord, to grant the favor that we ask you by his intercession, so that his sanctity may be recognized by all and that the church may soon allow us to invoke him as the one of your blessed ones, one of your saints.

• Dieu notre Père, ton serviteur dom Prosper Guéranger, abbé de Solesmes, attentif à l’Esprit-Saint, a permis à une multitude de fidèles de redécouvrir le sens de la liturgie, source du véritable esprit chrétien.

  Que son dévouement à la sainte Église et son amour filial envers la Vierge Immaculée, puisés dans le mystère Incarné, soient une lumière pour les chrétiens de notre temps.

  Daigne, Seigneur, nous accorder la faveur que nous te demandons par son intercession, afin que sa sainteté soit reconnue de tous et que l’Église nous permette au plus tôt de l’invoquer comme l’un de tes bienheureux et de tes saints.
